Rogado saves UC on edge

THE Enervon C-University of Cebu Webmasters were once more on the brink of another loss until Mocrief Rogado came to the rescue to eventually win, 74-72, over the Lion Tiger Aerosols-University of Southern Philippines Foundation in yesterday’s seniors game of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc (Cesafi) Partners Cup at the Cebu Coliseum.

UC and USPF were tied at 72 when Rogado fired a shot in the final four seconds to win the game, to prevent a repeat of their last game, where they lost to the PTT Fuels-University of the Visayas Green Lancers by a last minute free throw by a UV player.

Missed target

USPF’s Sereño could have sent the game to overtime yesterday but his attempt missed the target.

Kelvin Juliane led the Webmasters with 21 points, while Rogado added 11 for UC to finish the elimination with a 3-3 record.

Meanwhile, the other day, the Ave Maria Sanctuary and Park-University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars scored its fifth straight victory behind a 102-89 win over the Bibbo Hot-dog-Cebu Institute of Technology Wildcats, to assure itself a seat to the semifinal round.

The Jaguars still have one game left but the outcome will no longer affect its hold of the top of the standing. USJ-R is on top of the ranking and because of this they earned a bye in the quarterfinals.

Crippled

In the game, the Wildcats were virtually crippled as they played without three of their strongest players, the imports they tapped to reinforce the team, including playing coach Gilbert Demape.

The Jaguars pounced on the opportunity and jumped off to a 7-0 lead that set the stage for their victory. The Jaguars even managed to pad their lead to as much as 18 points, 62-44, and never looked back from there.

Christian Senining led the Jaguars with 14 points.

In the juniors matches yesterday, the Enervon C-UC also advanced to the semifinals by virtue of its 6-0 win-loss record following their 77-71 win over the Lion Tiger-USPF Baby Panthers.
