Comelec: Voters registration starts August 1

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) has announced that a new round of registration for voters will start on August 1.

Comelec-Pampanga Election Officer Fernando Cot-om said individuals who turned or will turn 18 before the forthcoming barangay elections, as well as those who were not able to vote during the recently-concluded midterm elections can register at their local Comelec offices.

Cot-om said other official processes such as changing of status and transfer of voting areas can also be done during the voters' registration period, which will last until September 30.

Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) voters, meanwhile, will not need to register again once they turn 18 years old, because their voter records will be automatically transferred to the regular list of voters, Cot-om said.

The Comelec official urged Kapampangans, especially youth, to seize the opportunity and register themselves at their local election offices to be able to exercise their rights to vote in the coming elections.

"This is the first step in exercising your right and we advise that you go at your earliest available time to avoid cramming during the deadline," he said.

Cot-om said local Comelec offices will also be open on Saturdays and holidays to accommodate individuals who wish to register as voters.
