Elizabeth Salabas: Marina Outstanding Woman of the Year

VMA Global College and Training Centers Inc. president Elizabeth Orola Salabas was given high regard for her steadfast contribution towards the betterment of the maritime industry in the awarding ceremony held Tuesday, June 25, on the International Seafarers Day Celebration at the PICC Forum 2, Pasay Metro Manila.

Salabas is one of the luminaries in the maritime industry. She is currently a commodore strengthening volunteer groups of teachers, community leaders, students, and out of school youth to undertake and assist in Marine Environmental Protection, Maritime Safety, Maritime Search and Rescue and Maritime Community Relations programs.

She also launched an alliance group called the Phil MET Council, composed of Philippine Association of Maritime Institutions and the PAMTCI Board of Directors. The council aims to support seafarers in providing allowances for the cadets, participate and collaborate in workshops, and conduct a series of seminars, workshops, fora, trainings and other organized activities for MHEIs, MTIs, and seafarers to standardize course packages for compliance of STCW Requirements. Salabas also strengthened ties with PAMI, the maritime industry and government agencies through dialogues and public consultations.

Salabas has a good moral standing in the community as proven by the leadership she has exhibited and was commended for by the different community leaders whether in relation to her profession or in her personal undertakings.

The nominee holds a degree on Doctor of Education who is currently the corporate executive officer (CEO) of the family owned group of companies. An educator and school administrator, who garnered numerous awards and recognition on her significant contribution to many organization she served.

The event was spearheaded by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) through the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) in collaboration with other government agencies and Maritime stakeholders. (PR)
