Liloan mayor connects with mountain residents

REELECTED Liloan, Cebu Mayor Christina Garcia-Frasco and her new council formally took their oath of office in the mountain barangay of Tabla on Saturday, June 29, 2019.

Frasco, in her speech, said she chose to hold the ceremony away from the town center so she and town officials could reach out to residents in far-flung areas.

Tabla is approximately nine kilometers from the highway.

“I am doing this because I want to give importance and attention to you (residents), just as how we treat the residents in lowland barangays. Thank you so much for accepting us. I hope that you felt our love and support for you,” she said.

Frasco is the daughter of incoming Cebu governor Gwen Garcia and the wife of former Liloan mayor and incoming fifth district representative Duke Frasco.

She said she would continue the programs and projects that were started during her first term.

“Now that I am given another chance as a mayor, I promise to give the same commitment. We will ensure the continuity of our projects,” she said in Cebuano.

During her first term, the town helped 3,549 scholars, built two new high schools in Cotcot and Catarman, purchased nine new ambulances, allotted not less than a P52-million budget for medical and burial assistance, implemented P250 million worth of road-concreting and -asphalting projects and built nine covered courts, among others.

Frasco said that with her mother back as governor of the province, Liloan will have more projects.

“For many years, the town could not expect assistance from the Capitol. But that will soon change. And with Duke as fifth district congressman, he will sponsor a resolution to turn Liloan into a city. Liloan’s dreams will not be far from reality,” she said in Cebuano.

The oath taking was officiated by Tabla Barangay Captain Maria Rosenisa Tilao.

Aside from members of the Frasco family and town officials, the activity was also attended by residents of the town’s mountain barangays. (WBS)
