The event, which runs started late February and until the second week of March, is in collaboration with SM North Interiors and the Art Association of the Philippines (AAP).

The AAP is an organization that aims to promote the cultural development of the Filipino people in a climate of free artistic and intellectual expressions through exhibitions showcasing the best of Filipino ingenuity.

Mercado's art paintings perfectly fit the description of the AAP. Rarely is a single glance enough for the eye to capture the whole meaning of a picture. While vivid colors dominate his canvass, disturbing brushstrokes never fail to challenge the curious on looker to scratch beyond the surface and dig for a deeper meaning.

Some hundreds of local art aficionados, art lovers and critics have already visited his works at the mall. These include some 50 old and new works that surely a sight to behold for rare local artist collectors. His works also feature some psychological to almost day-dreaming themes.

Those who were with us during the quick visit could only stare at the paintings with mouths agape. They could not believe their eyes when they suddenly see a face, a body or even a whole human figure evolving from the colors of the canvass. Amazing, is one word to describe Mercado’s work.

Self-taught in more ways than one, his stint with an advertising firm as a poster artist served to further hone Mercado’s talent. In 1975, he took a leap of faith and shifted to painting in oil on canvas at Mabini in Ermita. And in the 80's he had the opportunity to work with foreign collectors based in Sweden.

His art works were in fact featured in many art books in Manila and in the country. His paintings went on exhibit at local and international painting expositions. He achieved fame when his works received recognition. He was 1999 Finalist in the Winsor and Newton Millennium Art Competition, Museo ng Maynila, 2000 Semi-Finalist in the Philip Morris Art Competition, GSIS Pasay City, 2008 Finalist 61st in the AAP Annual Art Competition, 2009 Finalist in the GSIS Art Competition among others.
