DAVAO has never been busier. The rise of investment interests translated to the unprecedented development in the city, consular offices are opening, direct flights to international destinations by major airlines are increasing, etc. These, in turn, increase the number of residents in the city. Has the number of members of the 1964-founded social-group-turned-socio-economic-organization also increased? I believe so, by rule, if you have been a resident of Davao for ten years, you are automatically eligible to be a member of the Hijos de Davao. You are part of the Davao family.

You can show your affection for Davao by taking part of this important annual affair. It’s where you will meet the rest of your “family”, where you can establish your ties, which can be beneficial in more ways than just a social contact.

Hijos de Davao is a grand affair, yes. Isn’t the feast of Davao’s Patron Saint, St. Peter, and the camaraderie started by migrants more than a century ago and made official 55 years ago causes for a big celebration?

The 55th gala presented 18-year-old Alessandra Dominique Allado as its muse, daughter of Yuri Cabaguio Allado and Roselle Allado. Her escort, Caye Alessandro Rabat Francisco, is the son of Javey Paul Francisco, the commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission, and Kara Rabat Francisco.

Like the Rigodon de Honor, paying tribute to Davao artists is also becoming a tradition. Local designers lead by Alfonso “Boy” Guinoo presented their creations inspired by the 11 tribes of Mindanao with the past muses as models.
