SRA contractual workers face uncertainty

ABOUT 191 job order and contractual employees of the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) are facing uncertainty after their contracts remain unacted by the sugar board members up to this time.

The affected employees met with sugar board member Emilio Yulo III at the SRA office in Bacolod City Monday, July 1, and laid down their problems.

Yulo said it’s the board that will decide the faith of the affected employees.

He added that the board was supposed to take up last week the status of the affected employees, however, they failed to come up with a quorum due to the absence of SRA administrator Hermenegildo Serafica.

Yulo said only three members of the board are needed to have a quorum and hold a meeting.

He said the contractual and job order employees are crucial to the operations of the SRA and that most of them are paid through the Sugarcane Industry Development Act (Sida) Funds. Some of the employees are also doing the implementation of the projects under Sida, he added.

The employees said that they hope Serafica would show up during the board meeting so that their employment could be acted upon because they also have their families to feed and are dependent on their salaries.

The job order and contractual employees are receiving salaries from P10,000 to P40,000 depending on their respective jobs. (TDE)
