GOVERNMENT Service Insurance System (GSIS) president and general manager Jesus Clint Aranas has resigned from the state-run pension fund.

Aranas submitted his resignation letter to President Rodrigo Duterte's office on Tuesday afternoon, July 2, 2019, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea confirmed in a text message.

"We just received [Aranas's] letter of resignation a few minutes ago," the Executive Secretary said.

Medialdea said the President has yet to accept Aranas's resignation.

Aranas, in his resignation letter addressed to Duterte, said he believed that he had contributed to the advancement of the GSIS before leaving his post.

"I resign, secure in the knowledge that I have unwaveringly advanced the interest of GSIS and its members in discharging the functions of the said office always in obeisance to all laws and never compromising my integrity or that of the office I now relinquish," he said.

He did not state a reason for his resignation.

Duterte appointed Aranas to the state-run pension fund to replace Francisco Duque III who was appointed Health secretary.

Aranas was deputy commissioner of the Bureau of Internal Revenue before he was appointed as GSIS chief. (SunStar Philippines)
