Benguet hospital seeks increased fees

MEMBERS of the Provincial Board of Benguet will study the proposed increase of fees in Benguet General Hospital (BeGH).

Newly-installed Vice Governor Johnny Waguis said on Monday, July 1, the august body is still reviewing the proposed fees.

“There is a proposed increase and new fees of new items purchased of Benguet General Hospital but cannot collect because there is no basis. They are proposing an ordinance for new fees and added increase of existing fees. We are still reviewing,” he added.

Last week, BeGH proposed to amend the current hospital charges and fees to include new hospital services. The amendment was presented before the lawmakers on June 24.

The increase of fees and rates are based on the actual and incidental costs Dr. Maria Ulep, chief of hospital III said that the fees added to the services are utilized to acquire new equipment especially for general surgeries.

For 2019, estimated amount of operation cost of the hospital is P240 million.

Such significant fees are proposed to increase are the prices of room use in the hospital, proposed to increase also include the use of Intensive Care Unit-Coronary Care Unit (ICU/CCU) from P1,000 per day to P1,500 per day, the use of Neonatal Intensive Care Unity (NICU) from P200 per day to P500 per day.

The hospital also proposed to have charges for the environmental and disposal fee of P200 per gallon for hazardous fluid wastes and P50 per kilogram for hazardous solid wastes, the utilization of operating room proposed at P2,000 for minor surgery from P1,500 and for major surgery proposed at P4,000 from P3,500 while the recovery room is pegged at P300 per use from the P200.

The proposed prices for the use of the operating room was based on the prevailing PHIC Relative Unit as the minimum and the Philippine College of Surgeons rate as the maximum.

The BeGH at La Trinidad, Benguet houses special units such as the ICU/CCU, NICU, Operating Room, Delivery Room, Emergency Room and Out Patient Department while out sourve services include renal or dialysis center, 2-D-Echo, animal bite and family vaccine clinic and PhilHealth field office.
