KABAYAN, Benguet -- Newly-installed Mayor Faustino Aquisan wants faster internet connection for Mount Pulag, the country’s third highest mountain.
The mayor added Wi-Fi connection in Luzon’s highest mountain will aid in locating missing people recalling that in the past, individuals worry because they cannot get in touch with their relatives hiking in the mountain due to weak connection.
The come backing town official also plans to ask the national government to fund a separate building for briefings of climbers in Babadac.
A visitor’s center is currently housed in Ambangeg in Bokod, Benguet, less than 100 kilometers north of the City of Baguio.
All climbers are required to attend the orientation by the Mt. Pulag National Park under the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
Aside from internet connectivity, Aquisan pledge to continue tourism programs in Kabayan.
“Social services shall be given priority. I will continue that and I will continue tourism. Good education is tourism, good agriculture is under tourism, good discipline is under tourism, Smile Kabayan is under tourism,” said Aquisan.
Mt. Pulag nestled within Kabayan, Tinoc in Ifugao and Kayapa in Nueva Vizcaya province was declared a national park in 1987 by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 75.
