Island Paints, Phoenix Building advance to Corporate Cup finals

ISLAND Paints and Phoenix Building System will battle for the crown in the Architects+Engineers (A+E) Basketball Corporate Cup 2019 after winning the semifinals on Saturday, June 29, 2019, at the University of San Carlos gym.

The No. 1 seed Island Paints crushed Filmon/Dormakaba, 60-49.

Island Paints controlled the game and was up by as much as 17 points, 58-41, late in the fourth quarter.

Chester Hinagdanan led Island Paints with 21 points, two assists, two rebounds and two steals. Criz Matunog scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while John Famoso added 10 points and eight rebounds.

Justin Aspacio was the lone Filmon/Dormakaba player in double figures with 11 points.

On the other hand, Phoenix Building System walked away with a 61-55 win over Thinking Tools.

Thinking Tools led by seven points in the opening quarter, but Phoenix took the lead in the second period and was ahead 32-28 at halftime.

Phoenix Building System outscored Thinking Tools, 21-13, in the payoff period to come away with the six-point win.

Rodney Labang put on a striking performance of 15 points, 12 rebounds and three steals. Lawrence Gayotin added 15, while Malvin Malicdem chipped in 10.

Arnel Cordero exploded with 18 points, 16 rebounds, two steals and three blocks in a losing effort by Thinking Tools.EKA
