Curfew in Gingoog to be strictly implemented

CURFEW for minors and liquor ban beyond midnight in Gingoog City will be strictly imposed anew to lessen the crimes against persons, especially physical injury cases involving people under the influence of alcohol, the city's chief of police said Monday, July 1.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Ariel Philip Pontillas, Gingoog City Police chief, said there has been a minor increase of physical injury incidents involving people under the influence of intoxicating liquor.

Pontillas said the city's curfew ordinance will be strictly implemented effective Monday night, July 1.

He said those who will be caught drinking beyond midnight will also be arrested.

"Naay gamay increase sa atong crime volume basi sa crime stat and ang daghan is crime against persons especially kaning physical injury and contributor ani is ang pag-inom beyond 12 midnight," Pontillas said.

"We will see sa August kung effective ang atong strategy," he added.

Pontillas was reinstated again as the city's top cop last June 20 after he was reassigned in Oroquieta City in Misamis Occidental.

On Monday, July 1, he bared his plans on how to minimize crimes and maintain peace and order such as putting up two new police sub-stations in strategic locations in the city.

Pontillas also said there will likely be an augmentation of police personnel. At present, Gingoog City police has only 65 police personnel.

"Naay plano magbutang og duha ka substation. We are only 65 and ratio is 1:2,500. Naistoryahan na nga magbuhat ang syudad og resolution for that purpose," Pontillas said.

Pontillas also said among his plans is to make the city cleared from the menace of illegal drugs.

He said illegal drugs remains a problem but strategies are already in place to minimize, if not totally eradicate, the problem on illegal drug activities.

Out of 79 villages, Pontillas said only four have been declared as drug-cleared barangays.

But Pontillas clarified that there are no more big-time drug pushers in the city.

"Problema pa gihapon ang droga pero wala na tay dagko nga pusher diri ginagmay na lang kanang gikan sa CDO or Butuan unya i-resale diri," he said.

He said those identified drug personalities will be subjected to either "Tokhang" activities or police operation.

Pontillas is also confident of the support of the new administration to the police.

He said he already presented to the City Government the concerns of the police station such as lack of gadgets, logistical supplies, vehicles, among others.

"Sa new leadership nakita nako nga dayag, open, transparent and maminaw siya gusto niya ang idea sa mga heads mapagawas then he will decide," Pontillas said.

"Gusto nila makita ug mabati sa katawhan ang presensya sa kapolisan ug mapatuman ang immediate nga responde kung naay problema," he added.
