PSHS scholarship up for graduating elementary students

GRADUATING elementary students who have high aptitude in science and mathematics are urged to apply for a scholarship in secondary education under the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) system.

Negros Occidental Provincial Science and Technology Director Engr. Allan Francis Dara-ug said the country’s leading science high school hones its scholars to become globally-competitive Filipino scientists, researchers, technocrats, and engineers.

The six-year PSHS curriculum focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (Stem).

A grade six elementary pupil from a duly recognized school by the Department of Education (DepEd) may be eligible to apply if he/she has met the following criteria: (a) has a final grade of 85 percent or better in Science and Math, or upper 10 percent of the batch; (b) Filipino citizen with no pending or approved application as immigrant to any foreign country; (c) born on or after August 1, 2005; (d) has at least a satisfactory rating in his/her SY 2018-2019 report card; (e) has not taken the PSHS National Competitive Exam before; and (f) preferably in good health and fit to undertake a rigorous academic program.

The PSHS National Competitive Examination (NCE) is a one-time screening process meant to gauge the applicant’s ability in Science, Math, Language, and Abstract Reasoning.

Application forms are now available at www.pshs.edu.ph.

The submission of application forms and requirements is due on September 13 as the exam is on October 19.

An attached agency of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), the PSHS system is comprised of 16 PSHS campuses in the country, including its Iloilo campus.
