Motive in Tagum killings still being determined

AMID the series of killings in Tagum City, an official of the Police Regional Office in Davao (PRO 11) said investigation is still being conducted to determine the motive of the crimes and whether these have connection with the shutdown of investment schemes in the city.

PRO 11 spokesperson Police Major Jason Baria said Wednesday, July 3, that the angle on connection of investment schemes to the killings could not yet be finalized since the investigation is still ongoing. They are still establishing the motive and pattern of the killing of the victims whether these are related to investment scheme.

“With regards to that information, yon din ang mino-monitor namin because of the series of two incidents sa Tagum connected doon sa investment scheme. Porket connected doon sa isang investment scheme, yon na ang rason kung bakit siya pinatay. There’s no information yet kung ano talaga ang motive kung bakit pinatay lalo na yong unang incident, ‘yong sa staff na lalaki, (We are monitoring because of the series of two incidents in Tagum who are connected in an investment scheme. It does not mean that if the victim is connected to an investment scheme then that is already the reason why he was killed. There’s no information yet on the motive of the killing, especially the first incident)," he said.

On June 29, the Tagum City Police Station reported a shooting incident involving a staff of Ever Arm Any Marketing located on Suaybaguio Highway, Northpoint Building, Barangay Magugpo North, Tagum City. The victim was identified as Danilo del Campo Roberos, 36, who was killed by an unidentified gunman.

Baria said that contrary to what was posted in social media concluding that it has a connection with the closure of an investment firm, he said that there was no confirmation yet on the report.

He added, "Tinitignan natin ang background ng mga tao na biktima dito. As of now, wag muna tayong magbigay ng misinformation sa public lalo na sa social media kung wala pang confirmation regarding that," he said.

Baria dismissed apprehension that it does not mean that if you are an agent of an investment scheme or managers or employee, you are immediately a target for liquidation.

"Sa Tagum City, ito ang tinitignan natin more on monitoring tayo sa mga investors at the same time sa mga investment scheme, mga personnel sa investment scheme. Yong mga whereabouts nila," Baria underscored.

Meanwhile, they are just waiting for the warrant of arrest from the court to apprehend some personnel of investment firms. He is also encouraging the public who are victims of this fraudulent easy money schemes to file a formal complaint to the police.
