PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has accepted the resignation of Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) president and general manager Jesus Clint Aranas, Malacañang confirmed early Thursday, July 4.

In a statement, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said the President is now scouting for a new head of the state-run pension fund.

"The President has accepted Mr. Aranas' resignation without any reason nor any comment," the Palace official said.

"The President is now looking for a replacement for the vacated post," he added.

Aranas resigned on Tuesday, July 2, without citing any reason. He, however, stated in his resignation letter that he "never compromised his integrity" during his stint at GSIS.

His resignation came after the Commission on Audit, in its 2018 annual audit of the government-owned corporation, sought the refund of the P260.5 million in incentives given to GSIS employees deemed as "illegal expenditures." (SunStar Philippines)
