A 33-YEAR-OLD man detained at the Talisay City Police substation could be facing more charges after he attempted to escape from detention Wednesday morning, July 4, 2019.

Ramises Torrejos was just a kilometer away from the substation at City Hall in Barangay Lawaan 2 when police officers led by Police Major Orlando Carag Jr. arrested him.

Carag was about to have a courtesy call with Talisay City Mayor Gerald Anthony "Samsam" Gullas Jr. following his appointment as the city's new police chief when he heard the report that Torrejos had escaped police custody.

Police Executive Master Sergeant Tim Soreño of the Talisay City Police Station said the incident reportedly happened around 10 a.m.

Soreño said Torrejos, of Barangay Cansojong in the same city, was detained at the police stockades when he decided to escape by fiddling with the padlock of the jail door using a piece of wire he found.

Patrolman Romeo Saberon, who was in-charge of guarding those jailed at the stockades, did not notice Torrejos leaving as he was busy finishing making a report.

Soreño said a job order employee assigned at the stockades was also busy processing the renewal of his contract before the City Government.

Soreño said he was with Carag at that time and they were about to enter the City Hall compound when they received word about Torrejos' escape. This prompted Soreño and Carag to join in the chase. They eventually captured Torrejos.

In an interview, Torrejos told reporters that he decided to escape out of frustration that he was not included in those who will undergo plea bargaining before the court that would have grant him temporary liberty.

He also wanted to see his girlfriend.

Due to the incident, police will investigate Torrejos' jailer to decide if he is liable for the inmate's attempted escape. (From FMD of Superbalita Cebu)
