Leyte celebrates Pintados-Kasadyaan Festival of Festivals

THE Province of Leyte brought together the diverse, vibrant, and colorful festivals from the different towns in the province of Leyte and other participating festivals from the sister Island of Samar through the Pintados-Kasadyaan Festival of Festivals on June 27, 2019 at the Leyte Sports Development Center, Tacloban City.

The joint celebration of the Kasadyaan Festival of Festivals which brought fame and fortune to its various champions like Buyogan Festival of Abuyog, Tanauan’s Pasaka Festival, Lingganay Festival of Alang-alang, and Buraburon Festivalof Burauen, Leyte was on its 24th year; and the 33rd year of the Pintados Festival which showcases the ancient practice of body tattooing and developing great love for the Sr. Sto. Niño were joined by various organizations and municipalities.

Carrying the theme “Mga Guinlalantaw Han Leyte,” the celebration started with a festival parade from Leyte Sports Development Center passing through the major streets of the city and heading back to the grandstand. There were ritual presentations from the Pintados contingents; Tribu Guadalupe-Anon, Tribu Mandaragat, Tribe Siete Cuatro, and Tribu Mangirisda and demonstrations from Kasadyaan contingents; Tulo-usa Festival, Makarato Festival, and Pasako Festival.

The Pintados Festival was first celebrated on June 29, 1987, led by a group of businessmen in the city who saw the need to organize an event that would set an ecstatic mood in the city, and was eventually joint with Kasadyaan Festival of Festivals in 1996 to make the celebration of the feast of Sr. Sto. Niño be brighter for the people of Tacloban and Leyte.
