Sungduan: Kickoff project

AROUND 100 rotarians from the different rotary clubs in Baguio City including La Trinidad joined forces in planting at least 100 tree seedlings at the Pine Trees of the World Park along Governor Pack Road in the City of Pines.

Several number of Rotaracts and Rotakids also participated in the activity which is a kickoff project of Rotary International (RI) District 3790 Cluster 1C for Rotary Year 2019-2020.

According to RI District 3790 Cluster 1C Secretary and RC Sunrise Past President Larry Apostol, it has been a tradition for them to conduct tree planting activity as they start the Rotary year every first of July.

“It’s always a kick off project every year focusing on environmental concern,” Apostol said.

For her part, Rotary Club of Metro Baguio President Ofelia Villanueva said the undertaking is very important for the protection and preservation of the environment.

In fact, in her inaugural address during the RCMB turnover ceremony on June 18, 2019, she vowed to give focus on environmental concerns.

Environmental protection is also one of the priorities of RC Baguio South President Rowena Tabanda who also joined the tree planting activity.

RCMB club secretary Audrey Sungduan and Past President Fely Ronquillo also participated in the very important endeavor which was also supported by the Baguio City Public Information Office who conducted a briefing on the importance of planting tree seedlings.

This year’s rotary theme is “Rotary Connects the World” with Mark Daniel Maloney serving as the RI president.

With the support of the Rotarians around the globe and every community, we can hope for a better environment for the next generations to come.
