MORE business opportunities for micro entrepreneurs are seen as the wedding industry in the country continues to innovate.

Kasal.com brand manager Mathel Ong during Habi at Kape media forum on Wednesday, July 3, said there are around 200,000 weddings a year in the country and probably 800,000 micro entrepreneurs in the industry.

“They are not as noticeable kasi may mga home-based [suppliers], freelance, and sometimes there are companies that crossed-over like inlands and hotels. But what is nice about the industry is that it keeps on innovating. So yung before na we thought na hindi pwedeng maging part ng events industry nato, ngayon nagiging part na,” Ong said.

As an example, Ong said coffee shops before were not involved in wedding events but as it innovate, some weddings now include coffee shops in the reception area.

“[The innovation] helps a lot of local entrepreneurs be able to earn here in our country and not go abroad,” she said.

To further give an avenue for entrepreneurs in the wedding industry, the Kasalan at Kotilyon Wedding & Debut Expo 2019 will be held at Ayala Abreeza Mall this coming July 27 to 28. About 50 homegrown event suppliers are expected to join the expo.

DIY Event Styling Workshop by Metro Manila’s style master Henry Pascual and a preview of the Bridal Collection by Frances Gowns and Suits will be highlighted during the event. Raffle prizes will happen on the last day.

“Our prime objective [in this event] is to be able to provide information and resources especially for our OFW (Overseas Filipino Worker) markets because not all are actually getting (their supplies) in Manila so they would need access to resources in their hometown,” Ong said.

Kasalang Filipino is a project of Kasal.com since 2003, a nationwide wedding and tourism fair road show promoting the local wedding and tourism industry in the country.
