Oro mayor’s son still at PDEA temporary detention facility

CENTRAL Luzon's regional office of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has yet to receive the resolution from the prosecution office in Angeles City, Pampanga, on the drug charges it filed against eight suspects, which includes the son of Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno.

Glenn Guillermo of PDEA-Central Luzon said the prosecution office already conducted an inquest proceeding on July 1.

However, no official decisions were disseminated to PDEA that would determine whether suspects Sean Moreno, 43, the son of Mayor Oscar, with the seven others would face court trial.

Meanwhile, the mayor already said that he and his family will support Sean although they are experiencing difficulty with what happened.

Guillermo said that the younger Moreno and the other suspects were temporarily detained at the PDEA regional headquarters in San Fernando City, Pampanga, but if the public prosecutor would resolve to indict them, they will be transferred to Angeles City Jail.

Guillermo said the younger Moreno and seven other drug suspects were charged with section 5 (selling), section 11 (possession) and possible section 15 (use of dangerous drugs) of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act (RA 9165). Section 5, he said, is a non-bailable offense.

Others arrested were identified as Bernice Fabiosa, 21; Ma. Isabel Lawas,19; Aileen Baldon, 23; Jamie Mendoza, 20; Jessa Scott, 19; Bernadeth Saavedra, 19; and Gregorio Imperial, 26, all residents of Angeles City.

"Kung may resolution na at may commitment order ililipat sila sa Angeles City jail," Guillermo said, adding that the mayor's son will not receive special treatment.

"Hindi separate ang kulungan niya kasama siya sa ibang male detainees," Guillermo said, adding that no one has yet to visit him as of Thursday (July 4) noon.

"Tinanong ko siya kahapon kung dinalaw na siya ng tatay niya sabi niya hindi pa. Sabi din niya nahihiya daw siya," he added.

The younger Moreno and his companions were arrested after yielding around P1 million worth of party drugs in a drug bust in Angeles City on June 29.
