Gamblers and illegal loggers apprehended

GAMBLERS and log transporters landed in jail after they were separately arrested in the act of violating the laws while bulk of assorted lumber were confiscated during the Police Regional Office Cordillera’s one week simultaneous operation on June 24 to 30 this year.

In the conduct of its anti-illegal gambling operations, two bet collectors were apprehended after they were caught in the act of collecting bets at Lower Palali, Sablan, Benguet in the afternoon of June 26.

They were identified as Roger Algayn Florida Jr., 21, college student and Marie Lolina Casamis, 40, kubrador and both residents of Lower, Palali, Poblacion, Sablan, Benguet. Also, confiscated during the operation were cash money amounting to P1,200, a ballpoint pen, and one bundle receipt used for betting.

Meanwhile, two log transporters were arrested and a total of 28 pieces of assorted flitches and lumber were confiscated regionwide.

Farmers identified as Lando Liwes Cadap, 29, driver, and Chris Ole Bia, 35, helper and both residents of Sitio Kalyat, Brgy. Lenneng, Kabugao, Apayao were apprehended along the National Road at Sitio Mabubwa, Brgy. Calafug, Conner, Apayao in the afternoon of June 29, 2019.

Both suspects were onboard a white van loaded with Tangili lumber when they were flagged down. After failing to show pertinent documents for the said lumber, Police arrested the said suspects.

As a result, the 40 pieces of Tangili lumber were confiscated while its market value is yet to be determined while the lumber were brought to Kabugao Municipal Police Station(KMPS) for proper disposition.

18 pieces of abandoned assorted flitches with a total volume of 133.33 board feet worth P5, 599.86 were recovered by the police at Sitio Ma-or, Brgy Viewpoint, Banaue, Ifugao in the afternoon of June 24, 2019, after a concerned citizen reported the presence of said lumber in the area to the police which led to its discovery.

This aside from 10 pieces of assorted pine lumber were recovered at SoIpit Takba Lacmaan, Besao, Mountain Province in the evening of June 26, with its market value yet to be determined.
