School sports gets boost

ILOILO City Mayor Jerry Treñas met with teachers during a courtesy call at his office at City Hall Thursday, July 4, to address the needs to strengthen school sports programs for students.

Executive Assistant for Sports Development Rudiver Jungco Sr. discussed with 90 sports coordinators of public elementary and high schools in the city the various programs and projects of the new administration, including assistance to athletes’ allowances, equipment and facilities.

The mayor, through Jungco who now heads the city’s Sports Development Division, will look into the improvement of school gymnasiums and provision of needed equipment to be utilized for student athletes’ trainings.

Treñas also planned to increase financial assistance to athletes to help them cope with expenses in their trainings, tournaments and competitions. (PR)
