2 nabbed for illegal possession of guns

ALERTED policemen apprehended two people carrying firearms and ammunition while trying to slip past a checkpoint Friday, July 5, 2019, in Zamboanga City.

Police Captain Edwin Duco, Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) information officer, identified the arrested suspects as Fernando Lubiano, 45, and Edgardo Maravilla, 37.

They were allegedly caught in possession of caliber .45 pistol and a caliber

.357 revolver, respectively.

Duco said the two were nabbed around 12:07 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Governor Camins and Mayor Vitaliano Agan Avenues in the border of Barangays Camino Nuevo and Santa Maria.

Duco said that initially, the policemen manning the checkpoint found Lubiano in possession of a caliber .45 pistol loaded with six rounds of ammunition.

Duco said police also recovered from Lubian was a bonnet ski mask and a jacket.

He said the two men were aboard a motorcycle driven by Maravilla.

Maravilla was found in possession of a .357 revolver with ammunition during a follow-up body inspection when they were taken to the police headquarters.

He said the two were detained pending the filing of charges against them.

The local police have been conducting checkpoints as the Police Regional Office-

Zamboanga Peninsula placed its entire force on full alert in the wake of the June 28 attack at the camp of the Army’s 1st Brigade Combat Team in Sitio Tanjung in Barangay Kajatian in Indanan, Sulu.

Seven people, not eight as police previously reported, were killed while 22 others were wounded during the attack.

Three of the slain victims were soldiers, two civilians, and two were the suspected suicide bombers. Of the 22 wounded, 12 are soldiers and the remaining 10 are civilians.
