SEVENTY members of the Philippine Army Officer Candidate Course Class 52-2019 performed an hour-long “Silent Drill Exhibition” witnessed by the University of St. La Salle (USLS) officials, faculty and students at the USLS Soccer Field on July 4.

The officer candidates (OCs) who performed said exhibition are from the Officer Candidate School (OCS), Training and Doctrine Command (Tradoc), Philippine Army (PA) stationed in Capas, Tarlac. They are about to graduate as 2nd Lieutenants (2LTs) on August 16, 2019.

The OCs are undergoing their tour and on-the-job training (OJT) in Western Visayas as part of their course curriculum. They arrived in the 3rd Infantry Division, Jamindan, Capiz last June 27, 2019 via Philippine Air Force C-130 aircraft.

Colonel Ariel Reyes, Commandant, Officer Candidate School, TRADOC, PA said, “The Army wants to showcase the talents of the Officer Candidates (OCs) to the people through the Silent Drill Exhibition and promote OCS as the Philippine Army’s premier institution in producing commissioned officers.”

The Silent Drill is a variant of drill involving complex but precise marching and rifle sequences aimed to exemplify military unity, discipline and professionalism.

“We want to bring the Army closer to the people particularly to the students. And through this event, as the first Silent Drill Exhibition performed in La Salle and even in Negros, I am really grateful that the students and teachers warmly accepted us”, Brigadier General Benedict Arevalo, 303rd Infantry Brigade Commander said.

The OCs had already performed silent drills in Aklan Catholic College and Central Philippine University in Iloilo. (TDE)
