Bautista: Slow down

I'VE got chills, my temperature rising, aches and pain in my joints. Just a week before saw me indulging in good and rich delicious food. Non-stop too was it with alcohol to wash it all down. Night after night, day after day, meetings and functions never ending. Not to mention hotels stays were all compliments, and it would not help at all. Land travel here and there, whether driving or riding, the effect is all just the same. Add all of the good life in this mix and wallah, Juan may not be able to take it anymore.

The body sure knows how to tell it as it is. No ifs and buts. It will just shut down. Vehicles of today have the same. Not like the old cars that we have, when it breaks down, there was always some easy fix. A stop then go. No problem. Slow down then speed away after when done. With today's new models, apparently there will be a warning signal then it will just stop.

Our bodies are like a well-maintained engine. The right amounts of fluids and intake and all will be well. As a car age and just like us too, it will also need more maintenance. Abuse is also another thing. Our bodies like cars have limits too. We push ourselves like with our cars too, and believe me, the effects are the same. Take it slow.

I may have seen the signs, I just didn't bother to take them seriously. Still thinking that I am Superman. Unbreakable. Not. I felt better sleeping better in the hotel room because the previous days were not as kind. I mean the nights were not kind as I couldn't sleep. I blamed it on adrenaline at first. I will suspect today that it was having to eat too much meat. Soon after, I will instead double take on vegetables, apparently too much also is not good. From being constipated to being loose, both extremes. I even tried to make up with a 15 kilometer run in between all this. The body won't understand what's going on. Everything in moderation they say.

Even heading to a schedule can bring stress especially when time is not on your side. Traveling in the Metro on a Friday and a payday makes for another good mixture. You know what I mean. Anyway that Friday, all schedules were ruined. It did rain too. Stress levels are on a high. Just rushing from one place to another, being late for all schedules make for some wrong signals in the body, not to mention the car I use. Just the same extreme conditions all taking place at the same time. Traffic and rain plus tempers rising not good for man or machine.

The next day after my meeting and check out, I drove up to Baguio. I was late for a speaking engagement that I had to catch at 6 in the evening of Saturday. I was late for an hour because of traffic and added some stress to me the organizer and my car.

In the end, it just shuts down, the body that is. Maybe my car too but that's just a quick fix. Our bodies are different. A quick fix can be medicines but I don't think it would matter. In the end, we just have to listen to our

body. Feel the signs. Not enough sleep, too much food, nightly drinks, oily food, not enough water intake, junk food or processed meat, stress from work just to make ends meet will all make for a shut down indeed. All of which I have experienced in a week.

For the first time in months since January or maybe even since last year I had to stay home. A first. That could also be the reason why I got sick, I didn't get out. Just kidding. But despite being sick, I still had to get out to attend some meetings the next day, and indeed it made me feel better, a little uneasy but I didn't feel as sick when outside. Oh well, in the end all we have to do is to slow down.

I am back to all my busy self, back at work and some schedules to keep, concerns that need my attention are done with before I will head slowly down to the metro once more but with stops for food and gas for me and my machine, for good reason as I am coded until 8 in the evening. No rush.

Yesterday was the launch of Kasambahay in Palawan Pawnshop Building in Makati with my friend Bobby Castro the owner, being a Friday I start slow. Today, my schedule is golf with my Mistahs in the Army Open. While I have my hands full my intake I take slow, I will just leave earlier and take it slow to the schedules and save on fuel too. I will take it easy in the Metro knowing that with family in tow I will just have to SLOW DOWN.
