HNP: Term sharing not ideal

THE Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) is not rooting for term sharing in the House Speakership for it is not ideal.

HNP, the regional party of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, issued an official statement Friday morning, July 5.

The party said they “will not gun for term sharing for the Speaker of the House” saying “it is counterproductive”.

“It will slow down the last three years of the administration of President Duterte,” HNP said in a statement.

The party said the term sharing situation “will be racked with unseating the incumbent Speaker, deceit, dissent and distrust”.

They also said advocates of the proposed term sharing “do not seem to care what will happen to the House”.

“They just want to install a Speaker and do not think about what comes after”.

HNP added that the issue of the House Speakership should be settled within the members of the House, and political parties, including HNP and the Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod (HTL), a political party founded by then-Davao City Mayor and now President Rodrigo Duterte.

The regional party recently endorsed third district representative Isidro Ungab as their candidate for the House Speakership, a day after first district representative Paolo Duterte announced his interest for the position.

Duterte said he is proposing that the speaker of the house post be shared by representatives from Mindanao, Visayas, Luzon, and the partylist groups.

The presidential son’s statement was issued after talking to Congressman Alan Peter Cayetano, who is pushing for “term sharing.”

Duterte previously said he is not interested in the position, as his father, President Rodrigo Duterte, is opposing his move to run as House Speaker because of delicadeza. (RGL)
