Car owners can now get their plates from car dealers

CAR owners whose vehicle registration was from July to December 2018 can already get their respective plates from their car dealers.

A memorandum of agreement between the Land Transportation Office (LTO) 7 and the car dealers was signed on Saturday, July 6, 2019 with LTO regional director Vic Caindec.

During the signing, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Undersecretary Mark de Leon, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) chairman Martin Delgra III and LTFRB regional director Eduardo Montealto Jr. were present.

The MOA aims to release to the car dealers the 14,720 plate numbers which were from July to December 2018; another 3,275 plate numbers from March 2017 to July 2018 which were not claimed by the owners; and another 470 plate numbers from January 2016 to February 2016.

The LTO has already produced 98,407 plate numbers from 2016 to 2018 intended for Central Visayas since President Rodrigo Duterte assumed his office as president.

Caindec said the plate numbers were immediately produced since these were made from their head office. The LTO is already using its own machine which prints the plate numbers, he added.

In front of the car dealers and LTFRB officials, Caindec assured that the cars which were registered from January to May this year will get their plate numbers before the third quarter of 2019 ends.

Also, the LTO is aiming that all cars will already have its plate numbers upon the release by car dealers before the year ends. This program is headed by Assistant Secretary Edgar Galvante.

“Our objective is that all new vehicle release will now have their plate numbers attached before the end of this year. After that, the Republic with no plate numbers will end. That era has now ended,“ said Caindec.

For his part, de Leon said the LTO is making use of innovations through creating their own machines and robots for faster production of plate numbers. He said there is no need for the Philippines to go outside the country just to print the plate numbers like it used to do before. (From PAC of Superbalita Cebu/JJL)
