Love triangle eyed in teacher’s murder

A 30-YEAR-OLD public school teacher was gunned down by an unidentified assailant in Sitio Abapo, Barangay Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City on Friday night, July 5, 2019.

Alfredo Amit, a public school teacher assigned at the Buaya Elementary School, was on his way to his boarding house around 6 p.m. What he didn’t know was that a man on board a motorcycle was waiting for him in the corner.

Upon seeing Amit, the assailant disembarked from his motorcycle and approached the public school teacher.

As Amit was about to enter the boarding house, the suspect pulled out a pistol and fired several shots at him.

Residents living nearby only noticed the incident when they heard the gunshots.

By the time witnesses found Amit, the suspect had already fled.

Amit, who sustained gunshot wounds in his chest, was immediately brought to the hospital but he died soon upon arrival.

Police recovered two empty shells from a 9mm pistol at the crime scene.

Police Major Miguel Andeza, Mactan Police Station chief, said they are looking at several angles behind Amit’s murder, including a possible love triangle.

Andeza said Amit has a common-law wife whom he left behind at his hometown in Olango Island.

Amit’s common-law wife was previously married to a sailor and they had several children together.

Andeza added they initially investigated Amit’s work background in Barangay Buaya but the victim’s colleagues told police he had no known enemies at the public school nor did he receive any death threats.

For now, police have submitted the two 9mm empty shells they recovered from the crime scene to the PNP Crime Laboratory for examination. (JKV)
