BLISTT to aid in traffic

The Police Regional Office Cordillera (PRO-COR) continues to find ways to ease traffic in Baguio City and the Municipality of La Trinidad, centers of business, education economics.

In the weekly Pulis Mo, Kaibigan Mo radio forum, PROCOR Police Community Relations Head Police Colonel Davey Limmong explained talks have been conducted in the past between the two government units on how to ease the traffic in these areas.

“Discussions were made in the past and the concept of the Baguio-La Trinidad-Itogon-Tuba and Tublay or BLISTT should be strengthened because it cannot only be Baguio alone because of matters like its coding system which may not be the same as the other municipalities under BLISTT which should be in unison with each other,” Limmong said.

The PCR Chief called for cooperation amongst the areas under BLISTT in enforcing traffic rules and regulation which should jive with each other.

“Baguio City is expanding in terms of population. Those engaging in business in the city comes from the neighboring municipalities while some residents in Baguio works at the other nearby municipalities which is why there is a need to look at the structure under BLISTT,” the PCR Head stated.

In terms of traffic, Limmong reiterated the need for traffic related information campaigns for the public to be informed of the enforcement procedures the PNP is undertaking.

“For us no to receive negative criticisms about the traffic procedures that we enforce, traffic officers are detailed in areas where traffic are observed for it to be managed. Although we have the Highway Patrol Group, there mandate is to monitor the Highways for violations pertaining to national laws like smuggling, hijacking and others but directing traffic is not really under the mandate of the Police. There is a need to create a unit which should manage traffic,” Limmong added.
