City DRRM calls for disaster preparedness

A disaster preparedness and mitigation campaign is set to make sure the public can survive disasters.

The Baguio Regreening Movement (BRM), Louie Glenn Lardizabar, Reasearch and Planning Officer of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) said different activities will be done this July that aims to create awareness and preparedness on whatever calamities may hit Baguio City.

In the weekly Talakayan sa Environmental forum Lardizabal said “Starting this saturday (july 13) well be having a funrun to be conducted actually of the OCD(Office of the Civil Defense) in partnership with the City Government of Baguio. Other activities will be a bloodletting activity on the 13th of July. On the same, a funrun in partnership with the City Government of Baguio with the Redcross is set to be done aside from the closure of session road in partnership also with private inatitutions and non-government organizations that will conduct an activity on disaster management,” he said.

In celebration of National Disaster Resiliency themed “Kahabdaan sa sakuna’t peligro para sa tunay na pagbabago,” Lardizabal said the activity that focuses the awareness and capabilities of the residents in every barangay, aside from the observation of contigency plans in all the 128 barangays starting this July to September.

“We are focusing here in Baguio City for their awareness and the capacity and capabilities of our redidents here in Baguio City. We have program planning and contingency planning for all the 128 barangay starting this July to September so halos dalawang buwan po yun na tututukan para po maayos natin ang kanilang contingency plans” Lardizabar added.

The event calls for action among national agencies and local government units (LGUs) to implement disaster resilience campaigns towards increasing public awareness on the importance of disaster risk reduction and management. With reports from Nica Regalario, UC intern
