CATHCHING up in the bike stage, Jakub Langhammer of Czech Republic went on to secure the men's pro title while Dimity Lee Duke of Australia topped the women's side of the first Penong's 5150 duathlon held in an out-and-back course from Waterfront Insular Hotel Davao.
The 26-year-old Czech checked in at one hour and 46 minutes in the 2.5-kilometer run, 40K bike and 10K run event, which originally had an Olympic distance of 1.5K swim, 40K bike and 10K run until the swim leg was scrapped since the water, after a series of tests, was found unsuitable for recreational swimming. Results only came out Saturday morning, thus, the short notice on the cancellation of the swim stage.
Langhammer, who bagged $2,000 for his feat, raced past Kieran Mcpherson of New Zealand, Mitch Robins of Australia and August Benedicto of the Philippines who finished second, third and fourth, respectively.
Mcpherson timed 1:49:58 while Robins registered 1:53:07 and Benedicto clocked 1:54:10.
In women's pro, Duke broke the tape in 2:02:10 to outshine Laura Wood of New Zealand (2:09:10) who grabbed the runner-up honors. Meanwhile, John Leerams Chicano dominated the male Asian Elite division with a time of 1:50:54, besting fellow Filipinos Raymund Torio (1:53:22), Jorry Ycong (1:53:36), Juan Carlos Abad (1:54:35), Leonard Rondina (1:57:15) and Andrew Kim Remolino (1:58:28) for the crown.
In the Go for Gold Sunrise Sprint, Gian Wallace Tumabang and Moira Martinez Erediano shared top honors. Tumabang (1:05:08) beat Renz Wynn None Corbin (1:05:36) and Charles Lipura (1:06:51) for the men's title while Erediano (1:09:34) prevailed over Nicole Marie Seares del Rosario (1:18:32) and Frency Mae Bayking Eduria (1:27:24).
