Bayan Muna seeks Mikey Arroyo’s disqualification

THE Party-list group, Bayan Muna is ready to file disqualification proceedings against Pampanga Representative Mikey Arroyo if the Commission on Elections (Comelec) accepts his nomination as a party-list representative.

“Mikey does not represent a marginalized group,” Bayan Muna nominee Neri Colmenares said in reaction to reports that while Presidential son Mikey Arroyo gave way to his mother who has announced that she will be running as representative of the first district of Pampanga, he would seek yet another congressional position this time through the party-list system.

“It is an insult to the party-list system,” Colmenares said, adding, the law which governs the creation of party-list representations in Congress mandate that 90 days before election, nominees should have been submitted to the Commission on Elections.

Colmenares said assuming that the President’s son will be nominated, this should have been done on Feb. 9.

If Arroyo’s son wins as a party-list candidate, there are five Arroyo’s expected as members of the next Congress.

These include the President, her two sons (Mikey and Dato), her brother-in-law Iggy and a sister-in-law.

Various groups including peoples organizations have expressed apprehension over the President’s decision to run for Congress, claiming this is a calculated plan in her bid to become prime minister. Many allies of the President are likewise running for Congress.

Colmenares also revealed the group might also file a disqualification case against Energy Secretary Angelo Reyes.

Like Mikey, Colmenares said Reyes does not represent a marginalized sector.
