Honesty store opens in La Trinidad

LA TRINIDAD, BENGUET- Honesty will be tested in the Valley.

Part of the highlight of the La Trinidad Highland Vegetable Industry Week is the launch of the first “honesty stall” according to Municipal Agriculturists Felicitas Ticbaen.

Set to open on July 10, Ticbaen said the stall will sell fresh organic produce.

The project is spearheaded by the La Trinidad employee’s cooperative and La Organica, a group of pure organic practitioners in the valley.

“We will be launching the first honesty store that will also be situated in the municipality with two chillers to preserve and store fresh vegetables,” Ticbaen said.

Ticbaen relayed once farmer brings the products, this will be registered to the cooperative and consumers can purchase the product

A log book will be placed to register the purchases and will be deducted in the payroll for members.

Ticbaen said the idea to come up with an honesty store was inspired by moves of other provinces in the country saying the store will be a way to provide safe and nutritious vegetables.

The honesty store is supported by the cooperative, the municipal government and will be open to all.

During the Highland Vegetable Industry Week from July 9 to 11, the Benguet capital town with the League of Associations at the La Trinidad Vegetable Trading Area will feature a set of activities for the agricultural sector including the Highland Vegetable Salad Toss and Serving dubbed as “Vegelicious” where 600-800 kilograms of vegetable salad will be serving 4,000 to 5,000 people.
