MISAMIS Oriental Governor Yevgeny Emano said Monday, July 8, he will support the political plans of former Agriculture undersecretary Jose Gabriel La Viña, who as early as July 7, declared to run again for mayor in Cagayan de Oro City in the 2022 elections.
Emano said La Viña told him that he is willing to carry once again the coalition Padayon Pilipino-Centrist Democratic Party (CDP).
"Ingon siya kung wala gyud modagan, he is willing ug kung magpapili siya pagkamayor. Makalaom siya nga akong siyang paluyohan ug suportahan," Emano said.
Emano and La Viña talked over the weekend during a gathering of the coalition leaders and supporters at the latter's ancestral home in Barangay 31.
The governor said La Viña is one of the leaders his late father, Vicente "Dongkoy" Emano, chose very well.
"Maayo kaayo iyang pagkapili kay bisan naparot siya, nagpakita siya ug nagpasalamat sa mga tanang naghago apil mga kaubang kandidato," Emano said.
La Viña lost to re-elected Mayor Oscar Moreno in the last elections by 68,338 votes.
Last week, Emano, who is now on his third and final term, said one of his options in the 2022 elections is running for the city's highest top post.
But he said other options will be the mayorship of Tagoloan town, a congressional seat for the province's second district and the vice-gubernatorial position.
"Daghan pa man pwede pako mag-mayor sa Tagoloan. Pwede ko mabalik sa Congress, pwede ko vice governor. Pompee will be the priority," Emano said.
The Padayon Pilipino leader also said the party will have to re-strategize its plans even as he said that the political alliances they forged with other political groups will continue.
