Jejors told to secure ECC for MassKara coliseum

“SECURE Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) first.”

This was the statement of Bacolod City Mayor Evelio “Bing” Leonardia yesterday after he signed the contract between the city government and Jejors construction for the construction of the proposed MassKara Coliseum worth P800 million.

“One of the conditions there is that they should get their ECC so they can start the construction of the project,” Leonardia said.

He said they already issued the notice to proceed to the contractor, but they can only start the construction if they have the ECC.

“The running period for them to start will not commence unless the ECC is secured,” he added.

The MassKara Coliseum is one of the priority projects of the city government. It will be funded by the P1.7-billion loan from the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP).

Other priority projects of the City Government are the development of Progreso Village Relocation Site worth P350 million; Bacolod City College Site Development and Facilities, P350 million; and the construction of roads and bridges, P200 million.

The Yanson family earlier donated a total of 8.8 hectares to the city government for use as South Public Terminal, museum, and coliseum in Barangay Alijis.

Leonardia said the contractors of the city’s priority projects should secure the ECC first so they can start the program.

“We are just going to do it according to the contract,” he said.
