PNP resolves 31 administrative cases in Eastern Visayas

THE Regional Internal Affairs Service (Rias) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Eastern Visayas resolved 31 administrative cases from January 1 to May 31, 2019.

Police Colonel Joker Cuanso, Rias chief in the region, said his office received a total of 39 administrative cases within the period. Eight are still undergoing summary hearing proceedings.

Of the 39 cases, 23 were filed before the Leyte Provincial Internal Affairs Service (Pias). Biliran Pias, on the other hand, reported only one case.

The Police Regional Office (PRO) in Eastern Visayas, meanwhile, conducted 38 motu proprio investigations.

Of the 38, three incidents are being investigated, five complaints are for pre-charge investigation, five complaints were dropped and closed during the pre-charge investigation and 25 complaints were elevated to summary hearing proceedings.

Twenty-four non motu proprio cases are under investigation.

“Of these 24 cases, two complaints are for pre-charge investigation, eight were dropped and closed and 14 complaints were elevated for summary hearing. Of these 14 cases, nine were already resolved and forwarded to the disciplinary authority,” said Lieutenant Colonel Ma. Bella Rentuaya, PRO 8 spokesperson.

Cuanso warned police personnel that they must religiously adhere to the rules and regulations of the PNP to avoid being sanctioned.

Meanwhile, Rentuaya said the 1,972 police officers in the region who underwent random drug test conducted by the Regional Crime Laboratory Office from January 1 to June 30, 2019 yielded negative results.

Of the total, “1,080 are personnel from the Regional Headquarters and from the different police stations, 763 from members of Drug Enforcement Units, 79 from National Operational Support Units and 50 Non-Uniformed Personnel," Rentuaya said.

“I am happy with the outcome. This only goes to show that our personnel are worthy of public trust as the results turned out to be negative,” said PRO 8 Director Dionardo Carlos.

The unannounced drug tests are conducted to ensure the fitness of police personnel in line with the internal cleansing program of the PNP, Carlos said. (Ronald O. Reyes/SunStar Philippines)
