Legaspi: The silly zoo?

IN A world not far away, there is a zoo of animals. There are fancy, old and retired, new and wild animals in this place called “the zoo.”

Today, we live in a world of savagery. Killing, murder, stealing, immorality, bullying, unique sexual preference, power tripping and a lot more are the good description of the world we are in. These descriptions discount the natural calamities, disasters and the changes we are experiencing. So, allow me to use a satire in describing the “human zoo.”

Upon entering the zoo, one could see the multi-colored boas and anacondas freely coiling on the trees. They are calling all the guests with their hissing. One could immediately notice the blue snake on the door inspecting the guest and asking for his reason for the visit. Once he has scrutinized the guest he approves and calls on one of the multi-colored anacondas to assist the guest around the zoo. In the different small cages, one could see hamster and white mice running around in circles and running from one cage to the other. Then one could see some others and rats looking at the small rodents running around while they sip on their coffee and talk to one another about their silly working rodents.

Then one could see the warthogs entering and bringing with them the portfolios of the crocs who will be having a session with the black moccasin snake as their presiding officer. The crocodiles then lash their tails as they enter the big cage for their meeting. The snakes at the gates immediately become silent and bow down their heads to their big-bellied bosses. The warthogs then take their positions and guard the gates against reptiles who will soon ask from the crocodiles' help for their reptilian concerns.

The black moccasin enters after a meeting with the albino giraffe and the old toad. He seeks the wisdom of the two in handling the crocs. These two had been there for quite a long time and they know what to do. The black water moccasin then hisses his way in and flattered its shiny black skin. He gets the mallet and hits the gavel and tells all the crocs to be silent for he is about to speak. Silence ruled and for a long time, everyone was holding their breath. The good old reptile calls the toad and the giraffe. They present the program and boom, everyone opened their mouth for ayes. No one could say a nay for they are all afraid of the two – the giraffe and the toad for whom they owe their seats in the muddy hall.

The session continues. The hamsters run around. The otters and back rats continue sipping from their cups. The warthogs continue to stand and grind their fangs for the unwelcomed constituents. The snakes and vipers at the gates continue to do fraudulent businesses with the guests.

And just around the corner, one could see wolves under sheep's’ clothing. They are trying to look for their caves in the enclosures. They ease out the old ones from their enclosures and have them placed outside or leashed. While the funny looking wolves and their dingos are feasting inside the best enclosures of the zoo. They looked for the best mares and best stallions to massage them.

One could also see in the bog aquarium, leeches. Most of them are very old and could hardly move but they are still there because they help the bog animals suck out blood from the guests and the other animals outside of the zoo.

There are also the dangerous chameleons. There are plenty of them in the zoo. Most of them are fat –bellied that it is only in this zoo where you can find them. They could change their colors (affiliations) in seconds. They converse with the geckos. The geckoes are those who cannot be taken out because of their deep hold onto the giraffe, toad and the water moccasin.

And lastly, on the side, you see a beetle, working its way up and down and cleaning all the dung that these mammals, reptiles, and amphibians are wasting around. This little guy is doing the dirty job, like the hamsters and the white mice but they will remain in the lowest stage of the food chain in this zoo.

But wait, who is the zookeeper. Abangan ang susunod na kabanata...
