8 complaints vs investment schemes

SINCE President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the closure of all investment schemes, the Davao City Anti-Scam Unit (ASU) received eight complaints.

According to ASU chief Simplicio Sagarino, six out of the eight complainants are not residents of the city.

He added that these complainants were from Midsayap, Cotabato, and Tagum in Davao del Norte where there are no Anti-Scam Units in the area.

Sagarino said these complainants did not receive pay outs from the investment firms.

He said of the complainants, a retired teacher from Cotabato, invested P2.4 million in Everarm Marketing.

Sagarino added the complainants, when asked by ASU, said they filed their complaints here in the city because they believe Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio can help them in their problem.

"Dako ilang pagsalig sa atong Mayor ug sa atong Presidente (They trust our City Mayor and the President)," he said.

Sagarino said ASU is now processing referral documents to turn over the victim's complaints to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for further investigation.

He said ASU might be receiving different complaints from victims of investment firms anytime.

President Duterte ordered the stoppage of all illegal investment schemes in the country, particularly Kapa Community Ministry International Inc. (Kapa).

NBI, together with police forces, foreclosed different investment firm offices in the region, particularly in Tagum City it has proliferated.

Meanwhile, he said ASU is continuously monitoring 16 illegal investment companies that might possibly enter the city, as ordered by the Securities and Exchange Commission, which recently issued a cease and desist order (CDO) to Rigen Marketing, Jogle Marketing, and Organico.

These firms, according to Sagarino, have not yet filed the necessary permits such as business permit from the City Mayor's Office, Department of Trade and Industry, and the Bureau of Internal Revenue.

"Basin nanirado na gyud to sila kay wala naman sila namalik aron mu-comply sa ilang permit (Maybe they will no longer continue their operation since they did not went back here in our office to comply with the necessary permits)," he said. (With reports from Ralph Lawrence Llemit)
