ON MONDAY, the Davao City Government launched the 34th Kadayawan Festival, which is set to kick off on August 2, 2019. Festival organizers said there will be some changes for the festival this year. Instead of a back-to-back Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan street dancing competition and Pamulak Kadayawan floral float parade, the two premier events will be held in two separate weekends. Indak-Indak used to be held on Saturday morning followed by the Pamulak on Sunday morning. Another is the celebration this year will be month long instead of the traditional week-long celebration. “Unlike in the previous years that we put all the events in one week, we will spread it out for the entire weekend of August,” City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) head Generose Tecson said during the Kadayawan media launching at the DusitD2 Hotel Davao Monday, July 8. She added that this will give Dabawenyos a different experience and to entice more visitors. Based on the official schedule of events, the city did prepare a variety of weekly activities that will surely interest both Dabawenyos and visitors. The activities also give a glimpse of the different tribes in Davao City especially the Kadayawan Village, Dula Kadayawan, Hiyas sa Kadayawan, Sayaw Kadayawan, Tambayayong Kadayawan, and the Bantawan Cultural Presentation. The colorful logo of the Kadayawan Festival also exudes a lively and fun-filled celebration ahead of us. We are excited for the upcoming Kadayawan Festival this coming August. With the early launch of the city government, those who want to visit the city during the festival may also want to plan to stay a bit longer.
