ABOUT 34 manufacturers from Taiwan will showcase food processing and other equipment in Davao City in October this year.

“The goal of this event is for them to come and showcase to us their products in food processing equipment, construction materials, home fixtures, and others, for us to see also if it is viable for us. We will see whether it suits the requirement of our local producers,” Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (DCCCII) president Arturo Milan said in phone interview Tuesday, July 9.

“They are here to promote what they have just like us. They are also promoting because they know that Davao is a growing market, actually not only Davao but Mindanao,” he added.

The manufacturers were not named yet but during the initial discussion with the Trade Council of Taiwan and DCCCII, about 34 manufacturers already confirmed.

Milan said the interest of Taiwanese businessmen in the city is a good opportunity since there is a need for our local producers to venture into food processing.

“This is so that instead of raw, we can have the option to process our products. That is if our local producers are also interested to go into food processing. Rather than supplying fresh and perishable products, if we process it, we have value-added and the shelf life will be preserved,” he said.

Milan also said the chamber will help create the awareness about the importance of value-adding to agricultural products in the city as it help boost the income of local producers.

Oversupply in agricultural products will not be a problem in the city if food processing equipment is available.

Meanwhile, Milan said that aside from Taiwanese businessmen, there are also others who are interested to showcase their products and equipment. (LHC)
