Probe set on 'abduction' of BIR officials

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) is closely coordinating with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on the conduct of an investigation into the alleged abduction of Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) officials.

But first, police said the alleged victims have to surface, file complaints and provide details of their abduction.

(That is what we are trying to find out. We are calling on the victims to provide information and file a complaint so that we can pursue the case.)

Based on the record of the PNP Anti-Kidnapping Group, 15 ranking officials of the BIR have been abducted since 2013. Information on the status of these cases is not immediately available.

On Tuesday, PNP Chief Oscar Albayalde said President Rodrigo Duterte has expressed concern on the matter and instructed the PNP to conduct a “serious” investigation.

However, Albayalde said most of the victims did not report their abduction.

“That is being looked into. Actually ang problema kasi is sometimes ‘yung mga alleged victims ay ayaw nilang mag-complain but we have created teams for that lalo na sa NCR kasi madalas ditto nangyayari,” he said.

(SunStar Philippines)
