Tell it to SunStar: Insanity or stupidity

ON THURSDAY night, June 27, 2019, up to dawn of Friday, June 28, 2019, when the Cebuanos were sound asleep, 27 personnel from the Dakay Construction, with Executive Assistance Raymund Paul Climaco Taboada, were on the eighth floor of the Executive Bldg. of the New City Hall where the office of then mayor Tomas Osmeña was located. While there, these people stripped the mayor’s office of “shelves, light and plumbing fixtures, partitions and door, ceiling and floor works (tiles).” Reports show that even the toilet bowl was removed.

Later on, after the discovery of the unfortunate incident, Osmeña reported/justified the “stripping” of the aforementioned things because he spent P1 million from his own pocket for the renovation of the office, with another P1 million from the contributions of friends.

The incident was testament to his lack of sportsmanship, an act of sheer bad faith from the side of the mayor who lost in the May 13, 2019 elections. It showed perverse motive and certified ill-will. The question is: Was it insanity or stupidity?

Out of this insanity of stupidity, civilized society can never tolerate an uncivilized act like what the former mayor had done.

He declared openly that P1 million used in the renovation came from “contributions.” He has placed himself in a dilemma: This is an act violative of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act.
