A TOTAL of 104 erring motorists were charged by the Davao City Police Office–Traffic Group (DCPO-TG) for violation of the Republic Act 10586 or the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013 from February 2019 to date.
During a press forum at The Royal Mandaya Hotel yesterday, TG chief Police Lieutenant Colonel Nolan Raquid said there have been several individuals who were facing cases for driving under the influence of alcohol.
He said they are awaiting requested data from the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) on the number of vehicular incidents involving drunk drivers.
However, the SPMC said that after the strict implementation of the law, there has been a notable decrease of drunk drivers rushed in the hospital.
For violators of Republic Act 10054, or the Motorcycle Helmet Act, they likewise recorded a total of 9,081 individuals who were given Temporary Operator's Permit (TOP) while for other traffic laws or RA 4136, they noted 29,723 violators.
“This is not only an effort of the traffic group but a consolidated data to include the initiatives and accomplishments of other police station of the Davao City Police Office,” he said.
Meanwhile, based on the comparative data for the month of May and June, for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide, they recorded six in May and seven in June while for reckless imprudence resulting to serious physical injury, they registered 17 in May while 16 in June.
For reckless imprudence resulting to physical injuries, 134 incidents were recorded in May while 98 in June.
Raquid added that to further improve their enforcement capacity for over speeding, they already requested the city government for the procurement of 10 speed guns to help the Davao City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) in the apprehension of violators to avoid fatal incidents like what happened in Quimpo Boulevard in Matina where two perished and the bloody incident in Guadalupe in Matina Pangi that claimed 10 lives.
“It was already submitted to City Hall and we are waiting for the developments kung kanus-a pud mi ma-isyuhan ug speed gun. As of now, kato lang sa ang mahatag nako nga data (when we will be provided with speed guns. As of now, that’s all data that I can provide),” he said.
