10 songs on a rainy day

Sa Kwarto -- THEA

AN UMBRELLA and a raincoat are essentials to keep you dry on a rainy day. But keeping your headset plugged on your phone while listening to your favorite tune would keep your spirits high.

Here are the top 10 highly recommended songs to include in your rainy day playlist. I also included these songs in my personal Spotify playlist. Just search for "Spotify and the Rain by RGL."

1.) Kangaroo -- This Mortal Coil

This "dream pop" single released in 1984 might sound depressing considering this was pop back in the 80s. Although this one won't make you hop, as contrary to the song title, This Mortal Coil lets you see beauty in pain.

2.) Sa Kwarto -- Thea

The last single from Davao-based act Thea will make you fall in love all over again. The lyrics, "Mahal, dito lang tayo," makes you want to stay in bed, while staring at the rain. "Di lang sa gabi kita titingnan, pati sa umaga'y gigisingin ka" would also make you want to say "sana all."

3.) Porcelain -- Moby

If the reversed string samples and piano rhythms into its instrumentation layered with melancholic lyrics of a break-up relationship won't torture you enough, I bet your heart is a stone.

4.) Instant Crush -- Daft Punk feat. Julian Casablancas

It is unusual to hear auto-tuned vocals of Julian Casablancas, a far shift from his distorted vocals from his band The Strokes. The song talks about childhood memory of meeting a girl, but missing the opportunity to be with her.

5.) Hard Place -- H.E.R.

Filipino-American singer H.E.R. (real name is Gabi Wilson) is a promising act. Some may say "Best Part" (featuring Daniel Caesar) is her signature hit, they might have skipped this one. Everyone can relate to song's point: being stuck in between an unhealthy relationship and her own well-being, knowing that only love will win.

6.) Sino -- Unique

At first, leaving his band IV of Spades, who was at the verge of stardom thanks to "Mundo," may have been a bad decision to some. But then again, when his solo album "Grandma" was out, it was worth the risk. This one's down for the count.

7.) Cat and Mouse -- The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus

Emo kids, rejoice! This is the ultimate throwback track for all the 90s kids who have this song as their background music on their Friendster profile. (Also included in your burned CD playlists).

8.) Sign of the Times -- Harry Styles

With a touch of David Bowie slash Freddie Mercury, this glam rock-ish solo debut of Harry Styles is a standout among his fellow One Direction member's debut solo.

9.) Every Breaking Wave -- U2

More than four decades have passed, and yet, U2 manages to stay relevant in the millennial age. Those who are not properly introduced to this British band must press play for this track.

10.) Apocalypse -- Cigarettes After Sex

Imagine how deepest emotions would sound like... It's no wonder why some fans are selfish to share their sound to others. It's worth the lowkey.
