Operator ‘cancels’ contract with City

THE Cebu City Government and ARN Builders, which owns the private landfill in Barangay Binaliw, have reached an agreement to cancel the P65-million contract that the City awarded to the latter for solid waste disposal.

This was revealed by City Administrator Floro Casas Jr. to the media after a meeting with ARN Builders’ representatives on Monday, July 8, 2019.

Casas said the City recommended to the private landfill operator to cancel the contract.

“Fortunately, buotan ra man sad ang taga ARN (the ARN representatives understood us). Nisugot ra pud sila (They agreed) to unilaterally cancel the contract,” he said.

Casas further said that the ARN Builders also agreed to stop accepting garbage from Mandaue City and other local government units (LGUs) on July 30, as Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella has ordered that no trash would come into the city from other LGUs.

Labella, he said, plans to construct a waste-to-energy (WTE) facility in the city.

The WTE would process the garbage and convert it into electricity, according to Casas. (from PAC of SuperBalita Cebu/KAL)
