THE Junior Chamber International (JCI) Central Visayas gave assistance to at least 1,600 families who survived the fire incident that hit Barangay Tipolo, Mandaue City on June 28, 2019.

Last July 7, the Jaycees activated its Oplan Kaagapay and provided help to the victims.

JCI Central Visayas distributed over 1,000 relief goods to the Tipolo fire victims in the Cebu International Convention Center grounds.

Each family received a pack containing kilos of rice, canned goods, clothes and hygiene kits. These were donated by companies, organizations and private individuals.

“Everyone helped and extended their hands for the victims of the Tipolo fire. There was this abundance of help and donation coming from people with big hearts,” Oplan Kaagapay project chairman Marc Peterson Ng said.

One of JCI Central Visayas’s key partners was Grab Philippines, which provided free transportation of the relief goods through the latter’s GrabBayanihan initiative.

“We encouraged our users to give their donation through the Grab app,” says Raymond Dejan, one of the city managers of Grab Philippines. Grab users had sent their donation through the app for free to designated drop off points in Cebu before the distribution of the relief goods.

Other key sponsors include Workplace Café, BOGO Sports Apparel, Cebu Glass, BIG Hotel, Pitlane, Nuat Thai, Sugbutek, AXA, NJ2 Study Hub, Parkmall, IPI, Fat Dois, Sto. Niño Skills Development and Assessment Center and The Greenery.

In his speech, Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes thanked the JCI members for their help and support to the fire victims, and he also encouraged other organizations to extend their generosity to the affected families.
