SM Seaside City Cebu hosts 3-day bonsai, suiseki exhibits

BONSAI and suiseki (meaningful stones) enthusiasts gathered for a weekend of arts and appreciation last July 5 to 7 at the Mountain Wing atrium of SM Seaside City Cebu.

The Philippine Bonsai Society Inc. (PBSI) and the Natural Stone Society of the Philippines (NSSP) converged with their affiliates—the Cebu Bonsai Society and the Cebu Suiseki Society—in an exhibition dubbed “Sanib Pwersa” (Join Forces).

This extraordinary display of Cebu’s finest collections was presented to the public; the bonsai, a sign of harmony, peace, order of thoughts, and all that is good in nature; and the suiseki, a showcase of grandeur and beauty of important stones, which represent stability, longevity and immortality.

Patrons and mall-goers appreciated the kinds of art forms, and several activities were curated during the three-day event, which included a bonsai critique session, bonsai workshop and discussions on suiseki art.

The event also paved way for the groups’ induction of new officers and awarding of winners for the bonsai competition, and capped off with a ribbon cutting. Present during the event were SM Prime Holdings Inc. vice president Marissa Fernan, SM Seaside City regional operations manager Marylou Neri, PBSI president Bobby Gopiao and NSSP president Anthony Gedang.
