P135 million for Oro Eco Park’s development

CONSTRUCTION of the new Eco Park at the old dumpsite in Zayas, Barangay Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City will soon start following the groundbreaking ceremony Thursday, July 11.

The Eco Park gets a funding from the Department of Budget Management worth P35 million for the project’s first phase.

For its part, the city government has allocated at least P100 million for the development of the eco park which features the following structures: recreational area, forest area, a variation of trees, bamboo garden, boat dock, food court, pond, amphitheater, Walkway/Bike lane/jogging, Butterfly garden, fruit garden, research facility, nursery, and a parking area.

City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (Clenro) chief Engineer Armen Cuenca said the city wants the completion of the Eco Park before Mayor Oscar Moreno’s term ends.

According to the City Engineer’s Office, the concept and design of the eco park is based on the DBM guidelines.

Mayor Moreno, for his part, said to show the city’s commitment of the project, they are also pouring money for the project.

“Looking ahead, dako ang impact not just to Barangay Carmen, but to the western side of Cagayan de Oro,” Moreno said.
