Councilor pushes for no parking space, no car

DAVAO City third district Councilor Conrado Baluran pushed the proposal on “No Parking Space, No Car”, which is seen as one of the factors of the heavy traffic during rush hours, to become an ordinance.

Baluran said the increasing number of cars in the city caused too much traffic, adding travel time of commuters.

“During peak hours, makita nato na nga ang congestion dira murag nahimo siyang bottleneck, (During peak hours, we can see that the traffic congestion is like a bottleneck),” he added.

With this, he plans to invite investors under private-public partnership and joint venture for the city to have high-rise parking spaces.

He added that there is already a resolution encouraging lot owners to construct high-rise parking spaces and give them incentives to solve the traffic congestion.

Meanwhile, Davao City Vice Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte said if majority of the public benefit from this proposal, there is a need for the city council to pass it.

Baste added that the “no parking space, no car” proposal already reached the committee.
