PNP mulling obstruction of justice case vs Metrobank

PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) Chief Oscar Albayalde said on Friday, July 12, they might file charges against the management of Metropolitan Bank and Trust Company (Metrobank) for not immediately allowing officers inside its Binondo branch.

Albayalde said charges of obstruction of justice may be filed against the bank management.

The Metrobank Sto. Cristo branch in Binondo, Manila was robbed by seven men, two of whom were wearing a security guard's uniform, before it could open for business on Thursday, July 11.

Albayalde said the bank's officers in that branch did not immediately allow policemen to enter the bank premises following the robbery.

Manila Police District (MPD) Director Vicente Danao Jr. earlier said his men were allowed inside the bank two hours after the incident.

Albayalde said that the delay may affect the investigation of the police.

Both the bank management and the police have yet to determine the amount of cash taken by the robbers.

The perpetrators also reportedly took the bank's surveillance equipment.

Police earlier said the incident may have been an inside job. (SunStar Philippines)
